Mrs. Betty L. Marker, 84, of LaPorte, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at her home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in LaPorte, the daughter of Conrad J. Reiter Jr. and Hazel (Reed) Reiter. She was a lifelong LaPorte area resident.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper for 15 years for First of American Bank, retiring in 1989. She was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte and Swanson Activity Center for Older Adults, and volunteered as a LaPorte Hospital Pink Lady.
On March 23, 1944, in LaPorte, she married Leonard P. Marker, who preceded her in death June 8, 1981.
She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline (Dennis) Kray of Rolling Prairie, IN; son Robert Marker of LaPorte; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Robert Reiter of Clarksville, IN; and sister Barbara Kurprel of Merced, CA.
Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Marker; daughter, Katherine Hynek; and two brothers, James Reiter and Edward Reiter.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, July 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, July 8, from 12:30 until the service at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Carl Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
