On Sept. 16, 1983, in LaPorte, at 8 a.m., Patricia West was given the most precious gift of a beautiful son, Anthony Shawn West. He was present on this earth until the Lord took him home on Sept. 28, 2009, after a lifelong struggle with muscular dystrophy. He brought joy to everyone he touched.
Tony attended Rogers High School and went on to complete his GED through LaPorte High School. Tony was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, LaPorte.
Surviving are his mother, Patricia West of LaPorte; his father, Bart (Tiffany) Eigenmann of Knoxville, TN; his grandparents, Virginia Popplewell of LaPorte, Joe West of Michigan City, and Shirley Eigenmann of Venice, FL; six aunts, Ruth (Bill) Spence, Cindy (Harold) Bass, Ella (Dennis) Kalsow, Esther (Mike) Voloch, Nancy West, and Kathy West; numerous cousins and friends; and his beloved pet, “Peanut.”
Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Richard Eigenmann, and two uncles, Roger and Jeff West.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him for his fighting spirit, sense of humor, and his appreciation for the little things in life.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Rev. Dan McDonald and Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. A visitation and viewing will be on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
