I was happy to find your information. My neighbors thought our beautiful cedar was diseased. I assured them that it was normal for the inner needles to brown and shed as it has done that for the past 8 years we have lived here. Just to be sure I looked it up and found you!!! Thank you for reassuring me!

You are partially correct saying that White Pine (Pinus strobus) loses its needles every seven years. While the tree never actually drops all of its needles at once, leaving a bare pine tree, White Pine needles generally live for seven growing seasons before being shed. So when you look at a White Pine, you are usually looking at needles which are between 0 and 6 years old, dying and dropping on the seventh.

Thank you for that information. I am a very curious person. I thought that the white pines lost their needles every seven years. Ooops I was wrong. I noticed a great deal of sap falling this year before the browning and shedding. It seamed unusual.
