James A. Black I, 72, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born April 28, 1937, in Chicago to Robert and Louisa (Kascht) Black, both of whom preceded him in death.
James had been employed in sales with Kimball Midwest and Rossville Mills of Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed being around family and friends. Enjoying life was important to him and he will be greatly missed by all.
On Oct. 25, 1958, in Chicago, he married Kathryn Donovan, who preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2001.
Surviving are his son, Jim (Amy Nekvasil) Black II of LaPorte; grandchildren Jarrett Black and Savannah Black, both of LaPorte; and sister Barb (Tony) Kantor of Winston Salem, NC.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, with visitation from noon until the service.
