More than 200 people attended an open house on Saturday, Oct. 24, celebrating the unveiling of the new Founders’ Square at 1509 State St., LaPorte. The facility holds several medical offices of LaPorte Regional Health System (LRHS) and LaPorte Regional Physician Network, including:
— Laboratory services
— Wellness and Rehabilitation at Founders’ Square with Playtime Pediatrics Rehabilitation
— Family Care with John Rogers, MD, and Dar Andreatta, FNP-BC
— Internal Medicine with James Pickford, MD
— Pediatric Care with Usama Moustafa, MD, and Jeff Kuo, MD, of Playtime Pediatric Physician Office
LRHS President/CEO G. Thor Thordarson said the facility offers patients convenience. “In one visit, you can bring your child to the pediatrician, receive a referral for pediatric physical therapy and walk just a few feet to schedule your appointment,” Thordarson said. “If your physician orders certain labs, you can have your blood drawn right here, rather than having to go back to the hospital.”
The building’s design is also geared toward conveniency, with single-story access and close parking. The facility also has technological connectivity to LaPorte Hospital’s system with fiber-optic cabling.
Playtime Pediatric Rehabilitation has five treatment rooms and a large motor-skills room, while Playtime Pediatric Physician Office includes 12 exam rooms and a procedure room. Family Medicine holds 24 exam rooms and two minor procedure rooms. Three laboratory draw stations were installed as well.
Thordarson thanked all those who contributed to the creation of the facility during the difficult economic times. “While our health care system certainly has not been immune to the need to reduce costs, we have been diligent in focusing on the mission-critical projects that must move forward in order to serve the community better, and grow our health system regionally,” he said.
A ribbon cutting ceremony took place as well as a children’s costume contest with prizes awarded. Staff also performed several free blood pressure, bone density and pediatric developmental screenings.
