Eleanor Defnet   Mrs. Eleanor Defnet, 88, of Sun City, AZ, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Hospice of Arizona-Del Web Inpatient Unit in Sweetwater, AZ.

   Mrs. Defnet formerly lived in Grovertown, IN, and moved to Phoenix in 1943.

   She was born April 20, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of Christian C. and Hattie C. (Schipplock) Theis.

   Eleanor was a registered nurse and enjoyed her career. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of grapefruit and orange trees, feeding the birds, keeping animals healthy, and being outdoors.

   On Jan. 1, 1945, she married Clinton “Bud” Tweedy, who preceded her in death in September of 1999. She married Al Defnet in 1971; he preceded her in death in May of 1978.

   Also preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Bernice Hunt; and brother, Lester Theis.

   She is survived by her son, Chris (Karen) Tweedy of Columbia, SC; grandaughter, Ellen Tweedy of Charlotte, NC; three nieces, Carolyn Hunt of Mill Creek, IN, Marolyn Klockow of South Bend, IN, and Kathy Sue Matz of LaPorte; two cousins, Robert Wolfe of Knox, IN, and Marian Schipplock of South Bend; and sister-in-law, Catherine Theis of LaPorte.

   The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Devenport officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek.
