Pauline W. “Peaches” Young, 82, of LaPorte, departed this life on Sunday, Pauline YoungNov. 1, 2009, at LaPorte Hospital.

   She was born Dec. 7, 1926, to Mattie Collins in Gary, IN. Her mother preceded her in death.

   She later met and married the love of her life, Herman “Sweet” Young, on May 17, 1953, in Kingsford Heights.

   Pauline was employed at Howmet Corporation as an assembler for many years. She was a coordinator and very active with numerous community and church organizations on the local and national levels. She was the music director and member of First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights for many years until she united with St. Paul Bethel M.B.C. in South Bend, where she worked faithfully in many departments until the end. Pauline will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

   She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her loving husband, Herman “Sweet” Young; one daughter, Deborah Young of LaPorte; two great aunts, Mattie Sue Dunlap of Michigan City and Ethel Dunlap of Kingsford Heights; cousins, Willie Davis of Michigan City and Mattie V. Cotton of LaPorte; godmother Nellie Shead and family of Indianapolis; special friends Judy Bush of LaPorte and Preston Chaney of South Bend; and a host of cousins, relatives, church family and friends.

   Funeral services will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul Bethel M.B.C., 621 Lindsey St., South Bend, at 1 p.m. (2 p.m. EST), with visitation at noon (1 p.m. EST) until the service. Pastor Gilbert Washington will officiate. Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home, Michigan City, is handling arrangements.
