Thelma L. Stratton, 88, of LaPorte, died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at her home surrounded by family members and friends.
She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Logan, WV, to Frank and Carrie (Hutcheson) Williamson.
Due to her illness, Thelma was able to choose the time she would leave this mortal existence. This gave grateful children and grandchildren the wonderful opportunity to see her one last time to say goodbye for now.
On Aug. 27, 1942, in Logan, W VA, she married John Allen Stratton, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Barbara (George) Morrison of West Jefferson, NC, Patricia (Jim) Hann of LaPorte, John (Summer) Stratton of Sunset, UT, and Robert (Nancy) Stratton of LaPorte; one sister, Adeline Varney of Chapmanville, WV; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Katherine, Kathleen Williamson, Sue Furote and Darlene “Doll” Smith; one brother, James Williamson; and one grandson, Keith W. Stratton.
The family would like to thank the wonderful workers at Southern Care Hospice who helped Thelma to be comfortable during her final days.
There will be no services. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements. Burial will be in the Stratton Family Cemetery, Logan, WV.
