LaPorte High School Art Club members and teachers work on the mural adorning a wall of the preschool located at the high school.

The Art Club at LaPorte High School has created a mural for preschoolers.

“The Art Club was commissioned by Mrs. Paula Nichols to brighten up the preschool area,” said art teacher Laura Krentz.

Five to six students at a time worked on the mural. Mrs. Krentz and fellow art teacher Jason Turner also worked on the artwork.

“I think it’s a good idea,” said Mr. Turner. “I think it will brighten up the otherwise dull atmosphere for the kids.”

The mural depicts an outdoor scene, with children playing in a sunny environment.

Magdalena Skrzek, a member of the Art Club, was among those who worked on the mural.

“I’m excited for it. It’s a good idea to make something for the kids because they will feel like they’re outside even when they’re inside for the cold winter months,” said Skrzek.

The preschool is located inside the high school and the mural is located close to one of the entrances. Students worked hard to gather up supplies to complete the project.

“The building was designed for older students, so this mural gives the kids something of their own that might make them feel more comfortable in the building,” Mr. Turner said.
