Suzanne C. Hines, 78, of LaPorte, died peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Rensselaer, IN, to Ethel Opal and Harold William Campbell.

Sue graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1950. After living and working in Chicago for a short period of time she settled in LaPorte, married and raised a family. For 25 years she worked at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home, first as an activities assistant, then as an activities director. She had a remarkable talent for connecting to and caring for others, and those she cared for were grateful for her compassion. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Brentwood Assisted Living for eight years. Sue took great pleasure in visiting with friends and chatting on the telephone. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her children, grandchildren and family. She was fond of reading, crossword puzzles, word challenges and card games. She was a devoted mother and she adored her grandchildren. She was well known in her community as a friendly, thoughtful and generous person.

She is survived by son Dennis (Carol) of Riverside CA; daughter Peggy (Frank Fischer) of Blanchardville, WI; brother William (Jean) Campbell of Rensselaer; grandchildren Jack, Peter, Emma and Madeline; nieces; one nephew; and many loving friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; sister Marilyn Moore, and sons Jon, who died in infancy, and Jeffery, who died in 1990.

Friends and family are invited to Sue’s home, 103 Parkview Drive, LaPorte, on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. for a Celebration of Life gathering.
