The first phase of the Boston Street Project will finally begin on or about Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, the mayor’s office announced in a press release.

The project will widen Boston Street south of the railroad tracks, improve the intersection of Boston and Bach streets and reconstruct the existing roadway north of Bach Street.

Construction will be done in three phases; the first phase will take approximately 6 months.

Phase 1 will include closing Bach Street from Belden Street to Larson Street, and closing Boston Street from Bach Street to Factory Street. Alternative routes will be clearly marked. Truck traffic in and out of the Thomas Rose Industrial Park should use Fail Road, Severs Road and Genesis Drive. No trucks will be allowed on Park Street; however, local car traffic can use Park Street.

Mayor Kathy Chroback stated, “The reconstruction of Boston Street is long overdue. The planned improvements will greatly benefit the businesses and industries in and around our industrial area. Truck traffic in and out of the industrial park has been an issue for years. The widening of the intersection at Lincolnway and Boston Street will improve traffic flow.

“We ask for the public’s patience during the next 18 months and we plan to work closely with area businesses during the construction. We will do our best to keep the public informed on the closures as they occur.”
