As we near the end of our first year in existence, we at WNLP are so grateful for all the time and talent our contributors have shared with us. You — our writers, photographers, frequent and occasional contributors, and readers — have made this community homepage your own … which was our vision from the very beginning. We look forward to Year 2. As our New Year’s present, we’ve gathered some of the Best of WNLP in photos from 2009. Another batch of the best is just below. (Click on any photo to enlarge.) Happy New Year!

On Oct. 24 Jim and Luke Neubert, cowboys from Alturas, CA, came to LaPorte County to help some local folks with "colt starting" -- early training for young horses. Dennis Proud captured the cowboys at work, including this shot of Jim in action.

Sharon Goodman took this idyllic photo of people gathered on a perfect summer evening for one of downtown LaPorte's outdoor movie nights. This particular one featured a full moon and fireworks to boot.

Mike Kellems took this photo of Slicer quarterback Dustin DeMuth being pursued by Chesterton defenders. Unfortunately the Slicers lost that game, but went 6-4 on the season.

Dennis Proud got this great shot capturing all the sights and colors of the LaPorte County Fair at night. Can't you just smell the elephant ears?

The Civil War came to life on the grounds of the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum during an encampment by re-enactors on June 27. Beth Boardman took this photo as some Yanks fired a cannon.
