Mary Ellen Snyder, 87, of LaPorte, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Aug. 28, 1922, the daughter of Benjamin and Mythe (Taylor) Shue.
Mary Ellen was a wonderful mother, grandmother and faithful friend. She passed away leaving us all with memories of her love and devotion to all.
On April 16, 1938, in Michigan City, she married Stanley Niegos, who died June 7, 1977. On June 16, 1989, she married Richard Snyder, who also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Elaine) Niegos and Larry (Trudy) Niegos, both of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren, Susan (Michael) Wilkens, Ronald (Jill) Niegos, Kristi (Lee) Bootz, Tim (Kyra) Niegos, Jennifer Niegos, Dawn (John) Schmidt, Scott (Kelly) Stanage, Eric Stanage, Dianne (George) Zook, and Chad Niegos; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Nancy Stanage; son Benjamin Niegos; son-in-law Lyle Stanage; three brothers, Norman Shue and Edgar and Emmanuel Thompson; and two sisters, Mildred Bleck and Frances Watson.
She will remain in state at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin Square, Michigan City, on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, is handling arrangements.
