Joan M. Ulrich, 85, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Golden Living Center-Fountainview, LaJoan UlrichPorte.

   She was born in Reading, England, on March 14, 1924, daughter of William and Clara (Russell) Berry. Joan grew up in Reading and also lived in Fleet.

   Joan attended school in Reading and graduated from The Kendrick School for Girls. She began her working career with Lloyds Bank just before World War II.

   Joan married Arthur Ulrich in Reading on Sept. 27, 1944, and soon after came to America along with many other “War Brides” of the time.

   Joan was a homemaker and mother until 1963, when she took a job in the Bookkeeping Department of the LaPorte Bank & Trust. She advanced in her career from the Bookkeeping Department to Loan Officer, member of the Board of Trustees and ended her career as Chairman of the Board of the LaPorte Savings Bank, retiring in 2009.

   Surviving are son Peter Ulrich, daughter Pam (Moss) Ulrich, brother Peter Berry, grandson Jeffrey Ulrich, grandaughter Jillian Baldazo, great-grandsons Masen Ulrich, Keaton Ulrich and Dylan Lopez, and great-grandaughters Jenna Lopez and Kylie Baldazo.

   She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

   A time of visitation with the family will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte. Cremation has taken place. A service and interment will be held at a later date in Reading Cemetery’s Garden of Remembrance, Reading, England.
