Brian Irk proposes to his girlfriend, outgoing Miss America Katie Stam, during a gala event Friday night in Las Vegas.
Last year when former Miss Indiana Katie Stam was crowned as Miss America, WNLP ran a story noting her connection to LaPorte — her boyfriend, Brian Irk.
Well, he’s her boyfriend no longer — now he’s her fiance, after proposing to her Friday onstage during a fundraiser gala the night before Katie’s successor was chosen. Some 600 people watched him pop the question.
Brian grew up in LaPorte and both he and Katie attended the University of Indianapolis. His parents, Barb and Jerry Irk, lived in LaPorte for many years before moving a few years ago to North Carolina. Jerry sent WNLP the photo above of Brian proposing to Katie.
Katie, a native of Seymour, IN, was Miss Indiana 2008. She was the first Miss Indiana in history to be crowned Miss America.
Brian and Katie, who now live in Indianapolis, plan to marry in the fall.
