Several LaPorte and New Prairie high school wrestlers had good showings in the LaPorte Individual Wrestling Regional on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The champion at 171 lbs. was New Prairie senior Jeff Jurczak, who has a 26-4 record. In that same weight class, Slicer senior Zach Smith took fourth. His season record is 29-12.
LaPorte senior Greg Wedow took second in the 275-lb. class. His record for the season is 30-7. The champion in that class was Jay Trappani, a junior from Lowell.
At 140 lbs., Slicer senior Nick Santana took third; he has a 34-7 record. The champion in that class was Cameryn Brady from Lowell.
At 160 lbs., New Prairie senior Niles Goodman took third. He has a 34-5 record. That weight class’s champion was Sean McMurray, a senior from Portage.
At 103 lbs., LaPorte freshman Tyler Kuzdas placed fourth. He has a 20-10 record. The champ in that weight class was Paul Petrov, a Hanover Central sophomore who has a perfect 41-0 record.
At 152 lbs., New Prairie senior Dillan Escobedo took fourth; he has a 33-7 record. The champ was Dustin Schultz, a senior from Kankakee Valley.
At 189 lbs., LaPorte senior Dustin Pape took third. He has a 33-8 record. The champ was Portage senior Aaron King.
