The LaPorte County Historical Society held its annual meeting on Feb. 16, 2010, at the museum.

   The following annual reports were presented:

   — James Rodgers, curator, and Fern Eddy Schultz, editor, Historian of the Year, Archival Preservation and Promotion/Website.

   — A membership report was given by Arnie Bass for committee chair Jan Boardman.

   Schultz announced the speaker for the next meeting will be Ron McAtee, president of People Engaged in Preservation.

   Through the month of March, the museum will feature a special display of items from the Jaymar-Ruby Corporation (originally Hoosier Factories Inc.) a former Michigan City employer.

   On Saturday, March 6, the age-old process of turning sap into syrup will be demonstrated by Rich Pardue at Maple Syrup Day.

   Bruce Johnson introduced the speaker for the evening, Virginia Bushong. She provided information about Lincoln’s militia service and his funeral train stop at Michigan City.

   Refreshments were served by Sue Mollenhauer, Jim Simon and Barbara Bass.

   The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 16, at the museum, 2405 Indiana Ave., at 7 p.m. The facility is handicapped accessible and guests are welcome.
