Four members of the LaPorte High School Bands participated in the 50th annual Indiana All-State Bands, sponsored by the Indiana Bandmasters Association.

Students selected for the All-State Honor Band are Madeline Potter, clarinet; Cory Kraus, horn; and Alex Sirugo, trombone. Selected for the All-State Band is Karen Ault, trumpet.

Each student earned this honor by participating in a highly competitive audition held early in January at nine centers across Indiana. Nearly 800 talented young musicians applied to audition. A selection committee then reviewed tape recordings from each center. One hundred sixty-eight outstanding high school band members were then selected to participate in the 2010 festival.

Thomas McCauley directed the Indiana All-State Band. McCauley is director of bands at Montclair State University.

In addition to the regular Indiana All-State Band, there is a select Honor Band. Richard Clary directed the Honor Band. Clary is professor and director of advanced wind studies at Florida State University.

All band members participated in a series of activities including seating auditions, sectionals, and full rehearsals March 12-14. A grand finale concert took place March 14 in the Elliott Hall of Music on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus.
