Hilda M. Johanson, 87, of LaPorte, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Golden Living Center-Countryside Place, LaPorte.
She was born April 24, 1922, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Percy and Beatrice (Good) Clark.
Mrs. Johanson served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Hilda was an avid knitter who loved making baby blankets and afghans. She won contests at the county fair for her work as a member of the LaPorte County Extension Homemakers. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother who will be dearly missed.
On April 12, 1952, in Chicago, she married Gustav Reinhold Johanson, who preceded her in death in 1976.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and one grandson.
Surviving are four daughters, Ethelyn (Charles) Wesley of California, Naureen (Charles) Bostelman of New Carlisle, IN, and Karen (Carl) Schultz and Ingrid (Robert Jr.) Voelker, both of LaPorte; two brothers, Daren (Ruth) Morris of Richmond, BC, Canada, and Geoffrey (Barbara) Clark of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Presbyterian Church, LaPorte, with Pastor Sally Wicks officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

Ingrid and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours as you mourn the loss of your mother. I will always remember Hilda lovingly, with her unrelenting sunny disposition and piercing wit. She was truely a grand woman and a one of a kind. I will miss her so! Rest in Peace, dear friend.
