Esther D. Sullivan, 80, of LaPorte, died at 12:08 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at her home.
She was born March 30, 1929, in Chicago to Ralph and Anita (Curtis) De Jong.
Mrs. Sullivan was a mother and homemaker who lovingly cared for her home and family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and crossword puzzles. Esther played the organ and piano and enjoyed listening to all styles of music. She will be remembered as a loving and intelligent woman with an excellent sense of humor who always enjoyed learning and spending time with her family.
On April 2, 1949, in Chicago, she married James L. Sullivan, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Kathleen) of South Bend, IN, James (Eileen) of Oklahoma and Daniel (Rose) of Chicago; three daughters, Jill Young of Chicago and Maureen (Brian) Timm and Penny (Faud) Saleh, both of LaPorte; one brother, Larry (Pam) De Jong of Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, Marti, Lynn, Christina, Jason, Brandon, Christopher, Genevieve, and Mary; and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Richard.
Preceding Esther in death were her parents; one daughter, Patricia A. Smail; one brother, Ralph De Jong; and one grandson, Peter Sullivan.
A memorial gathering celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte. Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until the service. Cremation will take place.
