Mrs. Stella M. Cieslak, 94, of LaPorte, died at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in LaPorte.
She was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Collier, PA, to Joseph and Antionette (Schubert) Kowal.
Mrs. Cieslak retired from Zayre Corporation as head cashier of the Finance Department, and formerly worked at Bear Corp. in Gary, IN. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, and a former member of the St. Peter Catholic Rosary Society. She was a 25-year member of the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary and former president of Bishop Noll High School Mothers Club.
On Jan. 24, 1935, in Gary, she married Aloysius J. Cieslak, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1981.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Anthony Cieslak; one daughter, Joyce Nolan; two grandchildren; two brothers, John Kowal and Louis Koval; and three sisters, Helen Kowal, Sophie Rogers and Nellie Lazar.
She leaves behind two daughters, Eloise (Joseph) Janostak of Highland, IN, and Beverly (Jim) Welborne of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Neid of Knox, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Joseph Angotti officiating. Visitation will be held at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Thursday, March 18, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portage, IN, following the funeral and a luncheon.
