Mary Margaret “Pegge” Schaper, 86, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Feb. 6, 1924, in LaPorte, daughter of Dr. Neil E. and Leola (Terry) Funk. Her mother passed away when she was an infant and her grandparents, Leola Van Dien and James A. Terry, raised her.
Pegge worked at Whirlpool for 27 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of LaPorte and A O Psi Sorority. She was a 1942 LaPorte High School graduate and had belonged to the Girl Reserves and Girl Scouts. She attended Dennison College.
On Oct. 30, 1976, in Michigan City, IN, she married Elmer Christian Schaper, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brother, Neil Funk; and one grandchild; Patrick Neil Glassman.
Surviving are four daughters, Cynthia Rinker of LaPorte, Karen (Jon) Guenin of LaFountain, TN, Pamela (Doyle) Young of Bonne Terre, MO, and Debra (Phil) Bennett of Edwardsburg, MI; three sons, Terry (Kathy) Glassman of Portage, IN, William (Nora) Glassman of Freeport, IL, and Terry (Phyl) Schaper of Demotte, IN; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Cutler Funeral Home on Friday, March 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 20, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Celebration Service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sally Wicks officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
