It’s still spring, but summer was in the air at the LaPorte Civic Auditorium Saturday night, April 17, as the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra presented its April Pops concert, “State Fair: Blue Ribbon Event.”
Among the evening’s special features was the annual Magic Baton auction. This year the person chosen by the audience to wield the baton and lead the orchestra for a number was LaPorte High School student Andrew Steck (photo at top), son of LPHS music teacher Chuck Steck.

There were two co-winners of the pie contest.
Cindy Ault- 4th of July Pie
The judges said it was the model fruit pie consistency containing blueberry, apple, and strawberry in a delicate crust.
Betty Carpenter – Apple Walnut Streusel
This pie was beautifully golden with cutout leaf accents, the balance of spices for a classic taste combined with a crunchy light topping.
