   The LaPorte County Drug Free Partnership recognized police officers throughout the county for their efforts in DUI enforcement during 2009.

   Family, friends and officials gathered for the ceremony in LaPorte Wednesday, May 5, 2010. The top two officers from each department were awarded plaques and a notebook.

   LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Hynek was the officer with the most DUI arrests of all agencies in LaPorte County, with 54 arrests. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department led local agencies with a total of 308 DUI arrests. There were a total of 725 DUI arrests in LaPorte County in 2009.

   LaPorte Mayor Kathy Chroback spoke to those attending the ceremony and applauded the efforts of the officers making the county a safer community. The mayor also spoke of the terrible tragedy of losing loved ones in car crashes caused by drunk drivers, and the devastating effects on families.
