Slicer baseball fans had to hold their breath until the bottom of the sixth inning in LaPorte’s first game in the Crown Point Sectional on Thursday night, May 27, 2010. But LaPorte’s bats finally came alive and the Slicers came from behind to pull out a win over Chesterton, 3-1.

Last year LaPorte’s postseason run was cut short by Chesterton; this year it was the Slicers’ turn. It what has become typical in the later part of their season, the Slicer offense was slow to start. But the team stuck with what they know best: strong defense and patience. Capitalizing on a couple of Chesterton errors in the bottom of the sixth, LaPorte scored three runs and held the lead in the seventh for the win.

Next in sectional action, the Slicers will face top DAC rival and sectional host Crown Point on Memorial Day, May 31, at 1 p.m.

Scoring

   LaPorte — 3 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors

   Chesterton — 1 run, 2 hits, 3 errors
