Alexa Blanton, 13, of Boston Middle School, and Austin Cummings, 11, of Handley Elementary School, received the Spring 2010 Mayoral Awards from LaPorte Mayor Kathy Chroback for the spring semester.
Alexa and Austin received their awards Monday evening, June 7, 2010, at LaPorte City Hall.
“Alexa is a dedicated student and ambitious worker and has a caring heart,” the mayor said. “She is a trained peer mediator and a student ambassador for Boston Middle School and is involved in a number of extracurricular activities outside of school as well. She has an enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to reach out and help the underdog.
“Austin is the first student to assist anyone in need in the classroom or in the school,” Chroback said at the ceremony. “He can be counted on to carry out any task that is asked of him. He has a positive attitude and rarely has a ‘down’ day. He participates in Pop Warner Football and Little League and he can also be seen at the LaPorte Community School Corporation website in the student-made ‘Study Island’ infomercial.” Click here to view the informercial:
