Four students from area high schools were awarded LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office scholarships on Thursday, June 10, 2010, created to honor a fallen LaPorte County police officer.
The recipients, Brittany Wantland (Michigan City High School), Kaitlyn Purkal (LaPorte High School), Kirstin Lestinsky (New Prairie High School), and Wade Wallace (South Central High School) each received a check for $1,000.
The Neil G. Thompson Scholarship was created following the death of Patrolman Thompson, who was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 21, 1980.
