(EDITOR’S NOTE: Here’s a view of the July 4 parade — in pictures and prose — from a native LaPortean who returned here out of love for the community. Sharon Goodman is owner and proprietor of Kessler Lofts at 824 Lincolnway, the former Kessler Furniture building now transformed into stylish office and retail space. Here are her thoughts on LaPorte’s July 4 heritage and some of her shots from her lofty vantage point. I love the spirit of LaPorte on the 4th of July!
Spots are marked off long before. On parade day one can barely walk along the sidewalk for the crowds. Even in 90-degree-plus weather!
The anticipation for the flyover, from a military man to a “workout girl” to kids, parents and grandparents. We all watch and cheer! And we all get goosebumps.
People gathering on the courthouse sidewalk. How many parades has our old courthouse seen?
The giant flag and all the people standing as it passes.
The LPHS flag twirlers (of which I was once a part so many years ago!).
And the smile I got when I saw Laura Cutler of Thaddeus C Gallery celebrating with the “end of the parade lady”:

What great shots from a birds view! This bird is a great photographer as well. Thanks, Sharon Goodman. Great for memories sake.
