Scholarships and awards totaling $58,750 were presented to local students during the 2010 LaPorte Regional Health System Scholarship and Award/Loan Program at LaPorte Hospital on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. LRHS, the LaPorte Hospital Foundation and LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary have sponsored financial scholarships and award/loan programs for students pursuing health care careers since 1982.
LRHS recipient
Critical Occupations Award/Loan Program – Linda Fischer, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Fischer, who just finished her third year of college, is the daughter of Paul and Margaret Fischer. She currently works for LRHS as a Health Tech at LaPorte Hospital, fourth floor. Previously, she was awarded a LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary scholarship in 2006 and 2007 and LaPorte Hospital Foundation scholarship in 2008. She plans to work in the Emergency Department or Critical Care Unit.
Foundation recipients
The LaPorte Hospital Foundation scholarships and award/loan programs were funded by the proceeds of an annual golf tournament or were sponsored by gifts from local families. Recipients were:
Kepler Award Loan Program – Abigail Prast, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Prast, who just finished her second year of medical school, is the daughter of Mark and Angela Prast. She graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Previously, Prast volunteered at LaPorte Hospital and for the LaPorte Hospital Foundation. She received the Abby’s Pet Visitation award in 2004, LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary scholarship in 2005 and Rumely Award in 2006 and 2007. She plans to become a pediatrician in LaPorte.

Richard M. Sisson Scholarship – Katryna Decker, Purdue University North Central, Associate of Science in Nursing; Elizabeth Isenburg, Purdue University North Central, Associate of Science in Nursing.
Auxiliary recipients
The LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary awards were funded by proceeds from the LaPorte Hospital Wishing Well Gift Shop or sponsored by local families/organizations. Recipients were:
