The Alzheimer’s Association is now sponsoring an Alzheimer’s caregiver support group in Michigan City. This is the second Alzheimer’s Association support group in LaPorte County, joining the LaPorte support group. The support groups meet monthly to provide caregivers with an opportunity to share their experiences and receive support from others coping with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The new Michigan City Caregiver Support Group meets at St. Anthony Memorial Medical Center, 301 W. Homer St., on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.

“We received requests to hold a support group in the evening in LaPorte County, in addition to the LaPorte support group, which is held during the day,” said Louise Thompson, Community Services Liaison for the Alzheimer’s Association. “The LaPorte Caregiver Support Group meets at LaPorte Hospital, 1007 Lincolnway, on the second Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m.”

Attending a support group is a great way to talk with other caregivers and learn successful tips. There is no cost or commitment for caregivers to attend.
