Got a peppy pooch? LaPorte County Parks has just the destination for you — the new No-Leash Dog Park at Luhr County Park.
Luhr is the new home of the one-acre, no-leash dog facility and is one of four throughout the county parks system. In addition to Luhr County Park, there is a no-leash facility at Bluhm County Park (three acres), at Creek Ridge County Park (three and a quarter acre), and at the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter. (All pets must be on a leash outside the no-leash areas in the parks.)
Thanks to LaPorte County Prosecutor Robert Beckman’s infraction fund, which provided money for the facility from fees paid for by speeding tickets issued in the county, fencing, signage and dog boxes were purchased for Luhr Park.
Each park has self-registration permits which are located in the mailboxes at the facilities. There is a daily fee of $3 per day for each dog ($4 for out of county); or an annual fee of $25 for the first dog ($30 out of county) and $5 for each additional dog. The user fees help maintain the no-leash facilities.
