Wanda Weaver Slocum, 77, of Stuart, FL, died at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Martin Memorial Nursing and Restorative Care Center in Stuart.

   She was born June 11, 1933, in Vienna, IL, to Clifton and Mamie (McBride) Mathis.

   Mrs. Slocum was a businesswoman involved in various professions. She was a member of Westville Order of the Eastern Star and Westville Order of the Silver Star.

   She was married to Jack K. Weaver, who preceded her in death, and then to Charles Slocum, who also preceded her in death.

   She was also preceded by her parents, daughter Susan Bennitt, brother Maxwell Mathis, sister Imogene Martin, brother-in-law Roy Martin, niece Judy Eggleston, and great-nephew Brant Martin.

   She leaves behind one daughter, Tish (John) Sheets of Concord, NC; three sons, Michael (Gale) Weaver of Westville, IN, Wilfred Weaver of Stuart and Jonathan (Michele) Weaver of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Ramon (Eleanor) Mathis of Shelby, IN; one sister-in-law, Sara Mathis of Rockville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

   A private family memorial service will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, IN. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, handled the arrangements.
