Mrs. Geraldine E. ”Gerree” Zimmermann, of LaPorte, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Chicago to Richard and Frances (Manning) Mc Nichols.
Mrs. Zimmermann had been co-owner of Zimmermann Paint and Glass and Guardian Glass Service, and a secretary at LeMans Academy in Rolling Prairie, IN, for 12 years. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter School Mothers Club for 32 years, and LaPorte Service League.
On June 10, 1944, in Oak Park, IL, she married Robert J. Zimmermann, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kathryn Mc Nichols of Santa Clara, CA, Judith (Richard) Magenis of Sheffield, MA, and Laura (Mark) Krentz of LaPorte; two sons, Robert Zimmermann Jr. of San Francisco, CA, and Peter (Deirdre) Zimmermann of Hollis, NH; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Virginia Johnson; three sisters and three brothers.
A Celebration of Life/Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Angotti officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at the church. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

This one hits hard; Gerree and my mom were good friends, hauling us kids around, hosting one kid or another for dinner, and the like. Through the years my mom always spoke of Gerree with a smile, recalling some funny incident they’d shared. Gerree was a charming, delightful lady.
