Leara Harder   Leara O. Harder, 93, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.

   She was born April 28, 1917, in New Durham Township near Pinhook in LaPorte, the daughter of Charles and Helene (Schlack) Morman.

   Leara was part owner and operator of Kingsbury Elevator for 32 years; she worked in the office and enjoyed the people. Leara had worked at McLellans and for Schoff’s Cabins on Route 6. She also helped her husband with livestock on the farm. She was a member of Tracy United Methodist Church. Leara was a member of LaPorte Business Girls Association.

   On Nov. 26, 1936, in LaPorte, she married Walter H. Harder, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2006.

   Leara was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry; three sisters, Lela and Frieda Morman and Vera Lagish; and one brother, Charles Morman.

   She is survived by her son, Gerald “Jerry” (Myrna) Harder of LaPorte; foster son, Ronald (Gail) Harder of Schererville, IN; two grandchildren, Kevin Harder of Fishers, IN, and Kimberlee Guthier of Hendersonville, TN; two step-grandchildren, Ann Geiger of Mishawaka, IN, and Richard Geiger of Rolling Prairie, IN; and six great-grandchildren.

   The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Coolman officiating. Interment will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, IN.
