Mr. David N. Nickerson, 54, of Rolling Prairie, IN, died at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
He was born Sept. 8, 1955, in LaPorte to Richard and Janice (Unger) Nickerson.
Mr. Nickerson was director of St. Joseph County DuComb Community Corrections Center. He had worked in community corrections programs in LaPorte and St. Joseph counties. He was also owner of Coachman Antique Mall in LaPorte. He was a New Prairie High School graduate of 1973 and a graduate of Indiana University, American Correctional Association.
He leaves behind one daughter, Meghan (Philip) Egierski of South Bend, IN; one son, Adam (Jennifer) Nickerson of Olympia Fields, IL; four grandchildren, Noah, Abram and Lillian Egierski and Ava Nickerson; his parents; two sisters, Brenda (Brian) Pahs of LaPorte and Carla (Mark) Pahs of Rolling Prairie; two brothers, Ray (Mary) Nickerson of Oklahoma and Bruce Nickerson of Louisville, KY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 31, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Olive Chapel Cemetery, New Carlisle, IN.
Donations may be made for a permanent memorial at the new St. Joseph Community Correctional Facility, Ducomb Center, 1017 E. Madison St., South Bend, IN 46601.

I wish to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Nickerson family and especially the children and grand-children. Dave will truly be missed, he was a dear friend and co-worker who looked out for all individuals regardless of their background. He was my friend and may he rest in peace.

Dave was a great guy, he will certainly me missed by many… I recall working with Dave many years ago at the La Porte County Jail; he was always upbeat and positive, always had a smile. My sincere condolences to Dave’s family.

Dave was truly a great great guy who had a smile regardless of where you ran into him. WE shared alot of fun in school and beyond. Always had a great out look on things regardless of how tough things got. Our thoughts and prayers to your family and children. You will truly be missed by many.
