Curt L. Swanson, 85, of LaPorte, died peacefully with his family by his side at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.

   He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Chicago to Elmer and Esther (Brodine) Swanson.

   Curt was an auto mechanic for Montgomery Ward’s, LaPorte. He honorably served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Curt enjoyed restoring automobiles and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

   On March 27, 1953, in Valparaiso, IN, he married Barbara (Sims) Swanson, who survives.

   Also surviving are three daughters, Debra (Jeff) Piper of Michigan City, IN, Cheryl (Kim) Piotrowicz of Fish Lake, IN, and Lori (Michael) Rollins of LaPorte; one sister, Virginia (Jack) Walsh of Valparaiso; two brothers, John and Bert Swanson, both of Grovertown, IN; six grandchildren, Nathan Banaszak, Bradley Rollins, Jeffery Piper II, Beth Mulder, Emily Rollins, and Katie Piotrowicz; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Tristin and Parker Mulder.

   Cremation will take place. A memorial service with full military rites will be conducted at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
