Laurie Clark, owner of Dawg N Suds Mobile Grooming in Westville, will groom LaPorte County’s shelter dogs during October to help them find a new home.

As part of the National Mobile Grooming for a Cause event, Clark will visit both the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter in LaPorte and the Michiana Humane Society in Michigan City to groom dogs and help them “put their best paw forward,” Clark said.

“A clean, groomed dog has a much higher chance of being adopted,” she said.

“The saddest statistic I’ve ever known is that about 3 to 4 million pets are being euthanized in shelters every year in the United States. I feel I should do what I can to reduce that number. Donating my skills to help this cause is one way I can give back to the orphaned pets in LaPorte County.”

The Mobile Grooming for a Cause campaign was launched and coordinated by Wag’n Tails Mobile Conversions of Granger, IN, the company that manufactures Clark’s mobile grooming van. Like Clark, most of Wag’n Tails’ 1,500 van owners are participating in Mobile Grooming for a Cause all across the country.

“My mobile grooming van allows me to devote 100 percent of my attention to the pet being groomed,” Clark said. “Since Dawg N Suds is on wheels, it’s just ideal to help out since I can roll into the shelter and groom their pets right there in their parking lot.”

The Dawg N Suds van has one tank for fresh water and one for the dirty water to be collected. It has a bathtub, dryer, grooming table and even a hydro-massage bathing system. Clark’s van even makes its own electricity. “It’s a fully outfitted grooming shop on wheels,” she said.

“I just want to ask anyone interested in adding a pet to their family to please come to one of the shelters and adopt one of their adorable dogs. They deserve a warm, loving home,” Clark said.
