I would like to thank all of those who donated the following items to assist in making the LaPorte Police Department’s open house a success:

Balloons were donated by LaPorte’s Neighborhood Watch Association. Mr. Walter Allen of Alpha Baking and VIPS member Mike Sanders for the hot dog buns. Kabelin’s for the helium tank. Angelo Bernacchi Greenhouses for the nice flowers. Tara Harenza for the use of her hot dog cart. Rudy Schloesser for the signs. Merle and Suzanne Miller for tour tickets. Fr. Frank and Sandi Endres for donating for cups, napkins, table cover and condiments. Potato chips and cookies donated by Dan Maple. Kroger for hot dogs and water. A gift card from Wal-Mart. Mayor Kathy Chroback for donating two advertising banners in celebration of the department’s 100th year.

Volunteers are the heart of giving and what makes a community great. I would also like to extend his sincerest thanks to those who volunteered their time and services to make the open house and the 100th-year anniversary celebration of the formation of the police department a success. Here is that roll call of people who made it happen:

The LaPorte Police Department Explorers: Steve Vogel, Jack Johnson, Andrew Scherer, Kenny Watt, Rafael Casper, Lucas Lanie and Adam Wiatrowski.

LaPorte Police Reserve Officers Dan Maple and John Bello.

VIPS (Volunteers In Police Service): Mike Sanders, Sandi Endres, Merle and Suzanne Miller, Sierra Sue Jesch.

LaPorte Neighborhood Watch: Rudy and Hilda Schloesser, Jim Simon.

A big THANK YOU to Donna Bello (who is a member of both VIPS and Neighborhood Watch), whose awesome coordination and motivation got the job done!

Last but not least, to the 250 citizens who stopped by and joined in the celebration.
