John Luther, 1956-2011

John Luther   John Patrick Luther, 54, of LaPorte, died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Golden Living Center-Fountainview after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

   He was born March 17, 1956, in LaPorte to Wayne and Helen (Bzdell) Luther.

   John had worked at Sanlo Manufacturing, Michigan City, IN. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, where he had ushered for 35 years, volunteered at the Sacred Heart festivals and had served as an altar boy in his younger years. John had also been a member of the Hoosier Van Club and loved to travel with them. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking in his spare time. John was a very caring and helpful person and will be dearly missed.

   Surviving are his mother, Helen Luther of LaPorte, and cousins.

   His father and grandparents preceded him in death.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Gerald Sroka officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, on Tuesday, March 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, following services.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., LaPorte, IN 46350.

    To the family of John, we are so very sorry for your loss. We never knew his name but always felt his kindness. Rest in peace John.

    Oh my Lord. I was just scanning the internet looking for people I was friends with in high school and thought of John, only to find he passed away 2 days ago. Wow. I wish I could have gotten a hold of him sooner considering all he went through. John always liked playing guitar. John, I’m hoping you’re enjoying Heavens sound system right now!
