Budding artist Miguel Carrera is earning some recognition at a young age. Miguel, a student in Laura Krentz’s art class at LaPorte High School, has won the LaPorte County Solid Waste District’s contest for the cover design of its new program booklet.
Miguel’s design, shown above, was chosen from 103 entries. All the entries were first narrowed down in three stages to 15 finalists, then the winner was chosen by the solid waste district staff.
In the photo at right, LaPorte Mayor Kathy Chroback, who is also chair of the solid waste district board, presents Miguel with the first-place prize for the design, a Kindle electronic reading device.
