The Terra Verde Garden Club met at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, LaPorte, May 14, 2011. Frances Raderstorf and Sue Cummings hosted and Cummings presided over the meeting.

   The conservation report, given by Karen Piper, was on “Mulching Right.” Cummings presented the slide program, “The Long Journey of Tomatoes & Zinnias to North America.”

   Plants for the East Conservation Landscaping Plan at Kesling Middle School were delivered.

   Ann McDermott was welcomed into the club as a new member.

   The public is invited to two free Terra Verde programs on Friday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 4, at 9:30 a.m. on how to divide perennials. The programs will be held in the parking lot of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

   The club is asking the public for nominations for the annual Terra Verde Garden Club Awards, given to acknowledge outstanding gardens at private homes and businesses in our community.

   The club will next meet Tuesday, June 14, to tour members’ gardens. The public is welcome — call 362-1603 for information.
