The Terra Verde Garden Club met July 12, 2011. Dee Nusbaum and Barb Edmonds were hostesses. The program was a tree walk about LaPorte’s large and unusual trees, conducted by Liz Ridenour.
Sue Cummings presided over the meeting. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. In keeping with the program’s theme, Dee Nusbaum shared a photo of her Ace maple tree and read a poem about a tree.
The library report was given by Lois Thomas on “Able to Garden,” a book on gardening for the handicapped, edited by Peter Please.
Liz Ridenour reported on the East Conservation Landscaping Plan for Kesling Middle School. She delivered thank-you notes written by the students to Terra Verde in appreciation of the plants the club donated for the project.
Nominations for the annual Terra Verde gardening awards are still being accepted. The awards are given to acknowledge outstanding gardens at private homes and businesses in our community.
The next meeting will be a potluck on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at Sue Cummings’ home.
