The LaPorte High School Marching Band placed fourth in Class A at the Penn Invitational held at Penn High School on Sept. 24, 2011.
Complete Class A results:
1) 79.60 – Homestead, best overall awards for music and visual performance
2) 78.90 – Lake Central, best overall award for general effect
3) 67.05 – Snider, best small band award for music performance
4) 65.55 – LaPorte, best small band awards for visual and general effect performance
5) 64.70 – Elkhart Central
6) 55.90 – Huntington North
7) 55.65 – Elkhart Memorial
8 55.20 – Warsaw
9) 51.70 – Portage
On Oct. 2, the LPHS Marching Band will compete at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District Contest at Penn High School. The contest begins at 11 a.m. EST with LaPorte scheduled to perform at 3:46 p.m. EST. The band must score at least a 60 and receive a Gold Division Rating to advance to the ISSMA Northern Regional on Oct. 15 at Chesterton High School.
The top 10 scoring Class A bands from both the North and South Regionals will advance to the Semistate on Oct. 22 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. The top 10 scoring bands out of the 20 bands at Semistate will then advance to the State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Oct. 29.
The LPHS Band was a state finalist in 1991, 2004, 2005 and 2007.

I am very proud of the effort that the Slicer Marching band puts forth, both staff and students, while representing our school. I have every confidence in the world that they will advance on October 2nd!
