The Greater LaPorte Chamber of Commerce has awarded the 2011 Corporate Citizen of the Year Award to Packaging Logic Inc. for its community involvement.

The award was given at the chamber’s Salute to Business luncheon on Nov. 16.

Past and present community participation of Packaging Logic’s agents as board of director members or presidents includes: LaPorte Community Development Corporation, New Porte Landing Planning Committee, LaPorte Manufacturers Council, LaPorte Community Schools Strategic Plan Committee, GLEDC, Workforce Development Council, Chamber Retention Committee, and many others.

“This level of involvement demonstrates an admirable commitment to the community,” said chamber President Michael Seitz.

The chamber also awarded 10 area businesses with the Gold Salute to Business Award: American Licorice Company, Angelos & Rardin CPA, Dunebrook Prevent Child Abuse LaPorte County, LaPorte County Council on Aging, Packaging Logic Inc., Unity Foundation, TCB Manufacturing, LaPorte County Convention & Visitors Bureau, LaPorte Savings Bank, and Rumely Historic Apartments.

Leigh Morris, director of business recruitment for the northwest region of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, was the keynote speaker.

The event was developed eight years ago to honor chamber members who reported an increase in employment, reached a milestone in years of service, or made capital investments in their businesses. This year the co-sponsor of the event was Barnes & Thornburg LLP.
