The LaPorte Slicers’ 2011-2012 basketball season started Tuesday, Nov. 22, with a convincing 63-57 win over South Bend Riley. The Slicers’ second game of the season against the very athletic South Bend Clay Colonials on Saturday, Nov. 26, saw the team drop to 1 and 1 following a 66-58 loss on LaPorte’s home court.

In the second game, starting sophomore Josh Fleming paced LaPorte’s scoring. Fleming has score a total of 47 of the team’s combined 121 points on the new season. Senior Austin Alcorn tallied 16 points in Saturday night’s game, and sophomore Gage Ott (10) and senior Jack Nagy (6) rounded out the scoring, which also included a one-point free throw from junior Zach Kiger.

The Slicers will open up Duneland Conference play when they host Crown Point on Thursday, Dec. 2. Game time is 7:30 p.m., with junior varsity starting at 6 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 3, the Slicers will travel across the county to face rival New Prairie. The varsity game at New Prairie will start at 7 p.m.
