A small group of big-hearted LaPorteans has found a need for its charitable efforts this Christmas season.
The Secret Santa group decided to form to provide Christmas cheer to LaPorte County families down on their luck, maybe due to lost jobs, health issues or other difficulties.
Secret Santa members delivered gifts to four families on Dec. 20, 2011, and delivered gifts to seven more families on Dec. 21.
“We started out with two families and ended up with 11, in four weeks!” said member Steve Marovich.
Besides Marovich, founding members are Richard Kostielney, Sherri Shelton, Lisa Pierzakowski, Mike Pierzakowski, Virginia Marovich, and Fran Milo.
“We received donations from all over the USA from old LaPorte County friends and businesses,” Marovich said.
The group plans to grow in number to collect donations for needy families in the future. Learn more at “LPC Secret Santa” on Facebook. To join the group or help in the future, contact Lisa Snyder Pierzakowski at lisap3511@yahoo.com or 363-0745, or Marovich at biglou46350@hotmail.com or 393-9696.
“We plan on being bigger and better next year. We find the families through LaPorte Community Schools this year and want to expand to other school districts in LaPorte County next year,” the group states.
