A man was captured following an extensive search by LaPorte County and Starke County Sheriff’s Department officers on Friday afternoon, Dec. 30. The search followed an armed robbery/home invasion that occurred earlier in the day in Starke County.

Two suspects were spotted in LaPorte County on CR 950 South east of Kingsford Heights. One suspect was taken into custody following a foot chase. The second suspect, who was believed to be armed, fled on foot. A helicopter was requested from the Lake County Police Department and the sheriff’s department’s Emergency Response Team was activated.

Following a search on foot through wooded areas and open fields, the second suspect was located by a LaPorte County Sheriff’s police dog. The second suspect, who had jumped into Travis Ditch to try to avoid capture, was taken into custody. He was treated at the scene for hypothermia.

Both suspects were taken to the Starke County Jail.
