As of December 2011, what are the most dangerous intersections in the city of LaPorte? It’s a four-way tie: Boyd Boulevard and East Lincolnway, Boston Street and East Lincolnway, Tyler Street and Lincolnway, and Ind. 2 West and Andrew Avenue, with seven crashes each.

All four intersections, at busy areas with numerous businesses nearby, were perhaps even more hazardous during the holiday period. Still, all four are equipped with stoplights and turn lanes.

Following those four intersections, here are the next three with the most crashes in December 2011, according to LaPorte Police statistics:

– Ind. 2 West and K Street with six crashes

– Pine Lake Avenue and Weller Avenue with five crashes

– Lincolnway and Madison Street with five crashes

More statistics: During December, LaPorte Police investigated 36 property damage accidents and eight personal injury crashes, as compared to 70 property damage crashes and eight personal injury crashes in December 2010. Three crashes in December 2011 were alcohol related.

In total, LaPorte Police investigated 536 property damage and 108 personal injury crashes in 2011, in comparison to 571 property damage crashes, 134 personal injury crashes and one fatal crash in 2010. There were 28 alcohol-related crashes in 2011 in comparison to 31 such crashes in 2010.

“Although the total number of crashes and the number of alcohol-related crashes declined in 2011 as compared to 2010, we have still have a lot of room for improvement in the area of traffic safety and we will be working hard to make the streets safer in 2012,” said Capt. Tom Heath.
