New Prairie Middle School held its annual 6th, 7th and 8th grade Geography Bee on Jan. 11, 2012. Approximately 50 contestants participated, having been selected through individual classroom geography bees involving the entire 720-member student body. The first-place finisher was 7th grader Molly McFadden and the runner-up was 7th grader Lexi Benhart. Each of these young ladies received a National Geography Bee T-shirt as well as a U.S. Savings Bond.
Molly will be given a written test which will be submitted to the national office to determine whether she will advance to the state competition. We wish her luck!
The bee’s organizer is Krista Smith, 8th-grade U.S. History teacher. She was assisted by judges (and fellow teachers) Dena True, Sue Johnson and Marty Mosson.
