Longtime LaPorte High School teacher and football coach Bob Schellinger was honored at the Jan. 12, 2012, LaPorte County Sheriff’s Merit Board meeting.

Schellinger served on the merit board for 17 years, many as the board president. During his tenure and as part of his duties, Schellinger has interviewed every current member of the department as either a candidate for hire or promotion, except for the current sheriff.
